Most of the region's economy relies on rural industries. The most prosperous of these has always been the ranching industry, with Texas' biggest ranches located there. Suitable temperatures and LOTS of grass make this excellent for the industry. The North Central Plains also have conditions for farming, with the largest crop grown being wheat. Another major industry is the oil industry. Many oil rigs were built in this region to cash in on the many oil patches located throughout the prairies.
In larger cities, manufacturing and tourism contribute more to their economy. Fort Worth, for example, bases companies like American Airlines, and rodeos have contributed to the tourism industry as well.
